Bad Network Locator paths in AAF for assets checked in to Interplay

Hi,

Using the follwoing configuration:

Avid ISIS client  v 4.7.0.10570

Avid Service Framework  v1.8.0.40

Media Composer v 8.2.3

Avid Interplay v3.1.0.43225

A new master clip is imported into Media Composer which has connected to Interplay as a different user to that used by the ISIS Client manager.

The Master clip is checked into Interplay.

If the AAF for that Master is retrievied from Interplay, for example using Web Services (GetLatest), then the resulting AAF has invalid Ntetwork Locator paths, of the form //UNAVAILABLE/1234/file.mxf.

If the Interplay user and the ISIS connection user are the same, then the network locators in the AAF are correct.

Is this a bug?  It seems to have started happening for installations where Media Composer version after 8.0, although direct export of the AAF from Media Caomposer always gets the path correct, which suggests something relating to the Interplay framework?

Thanks

Steve

Media Director Proxy and Hi-Res on different ISIS Systems

Hi,

I have another question regarding our new Interplay system and the Media Director Server.

We would like to transcode proxy and Hi-Res DNxHD 185 files via Media Director from the AMA files, which were moved to the "parking" space before. Is there any possibility to copy them to different locations? We have 2 different ISIS systems and want to use the ISIS5500 for Hi-Res editing and our old ISIS5000 for proxy storage - so our authors can review the proxy files without causing any traffic on the editing system.

Under PAM/Workgroup in the Media Director Web Administration tool I can only choose one PAMAdressISISPath where all transcoded files will be stored at - the proxy files as well as the Hi-res files. Is there any walkaround which doesn't include Avid Media Services (which we don't own yet)

Thank a lot for helping.

Sony XAVC support

We discussed a bit about it on the media composer's section of the forum. But I'll post it also here.

Does someone know if Avid is actually working on SONY'S XAVC 25, 35, 50 and INTRA native support for media composer and interplay (including media central and cloud) and if it's possible to have a prevision about when it would be available and certified for broadcast use?

Unable to Check-In 4K Footage Into Interplay

$

Hello,

Our company recently upgraded to ISIS 5500, Media Composer 8.4, and Interplay 3.3.  With Media Composer 8 we're able to work with 4K footage but it doesn't seem that Interplay is ready to work with the 4K stuff.  I want to be able to load 4K footage and then check it into Interplay for us to use, just like we do with all our HD footage, but Media Composer won't let me.  Here's what I did:

1. Created a 4K DCI Full 4096x2160 23.976p project

2. I selected "Link To Media" and chose the 4K 23.98 XAVC clips we shot on a Sony PMW-F5

3. Transcoded it to DNxHR HQX MXF to one of our ISIS drives.

4. Once it's done the footage works in the project fine.

5. Right-click on clip and click Check In To Interplay.  I then get an error box that says "This media is not supported for          check-in in this configuration of Interplay Production."

When I look on ISIS the raw MXF files are there and they're referencable in the project but when I go to another compouter with the same project all the 4K shows up as Media Offline.  We're going to be editing and delivering an entire show in 4K later this month and the workflow we want to use is load the footage at HD and do an offline like that.  Then batch import the files used in the sequence at 4K for the online.  Since Media Composer can edit 4K and we have Interplay we'd like to do it all using these.  We did a 4K show last year where we offlined in Media Composer then onlined in Resolve and it didn't quite give us the results and ease of use we were looking for so we were hoping to avoid that this time since the client is asking for all Avid-based deliverables anyway.  Is there an upgrade we have to do to Interplay or is 4K and Interplay still not compatbile at this time?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Media Director 1.2 GetVolumeInfo error

Hi again,

I need some help with the Media Director System once more. We did an Update to 1.2 because we need the support of Canon XF files, because we shoot a lot with c300s.

The deinstallation of 1.1 worked fine and also the new installation of the 1.2 Engine performed without any errors. I checked the install logs and there is also no error code reported. Then I followed the installation guide and installed the AMA plugins, rebooted and logged in as the MAAdmin user. so far.

The ingest of any mxf material doesn't work. I suppose there is some problem with the ama plugins?
When I drop files into the drop tool, the new clip tool addon recognize the material. But after copying the material to the "parked" drive, I always get error messages:

"Error #1 occurred in GetVolumeInfo:
Details:

at Avid.MediaRewrapping.MediaWrapper.VolumeInfoExtractor.Execute()

Is there anyone who experienced the same issues before I roll back to 1.1

Best regards

AMT uploaded of AVCI - decode issues

Hi,

Have used AMT to write to mxf files some precoded AVCI as the latest AMT release no longer includes AVCI compression. In media composer it decodees as per the attached screen shot.

Any ideas, nornally media works or does, not, in other tools decodees as a full frame

I not eform looking at the generated MXF thta an Access unit delimiter is present  but the SPS/PPS seem to go missing. Avid generated media has "00 00 00 01 06" NAL's that seem undocumented.

Is there more detail about the precise layout of AVCI expected available

Exchanging Interplay Projects/Media with remote site

$

Our office has twelve Media Composer systems connected to Interplay Production on ISIS storage. We are talking about having one of the editors work in an office in a different part of the country and we are trying to determine what his workflow would realistically be.

- The best option of course would be to use Media Composer Cloud (former Sphere) to facilitate access to our existing Interplay Production system. Since we do not have any plans to remotely connect more than a single user, this option would likely not be cost-effective.

- The safest option would be to segregate projects and media to the remote system. We would export and transfer (via Aspera) media that the user would need to edit locally and never bring his projects back to Interplay. If we originate a project at the remote location with media that has never been added to Interplay, I could see importing an AAF back to Interplay, however.

- What would be optimal would be to use a workflow that could allow the remote editor to utilize duplicates of media that exists in Interplay and return his timelines to Interplay and relink to the original media on ISIS storage. Based on my experience with the Interplay system, I imagine media could be "thrown over the fence" by copying the MXF OP Atoms right off Interplay and adding those to local storage at the remote site. Exchanging the media and projects in this fashion (if it would even work reliably) would seem to require a good deal of administrator support, where a user-servicable exchange process would be more desirable.

I have searched the Internet and briefly browsed topics in this forum to see if anyone has attempted media and project exchanges with Media Composer systems not connected to Interplay, with no luck. So I am looking for suggestions to see if there are even viable options to consider besides Media Composer Cloud (Sphere).

Transfer Manager 3.1 Client question

Hello,

I've just updated my transfer manager standalone to version 3.1.  On the older version, I would receive a "TMinbox..." bin in media composer which would allow me to easily consolidate the transfers i received to the appropriate edit workspace. This isn't happening with the new version.  Is there a setting i need to tweak to turn this on?

also, the Transfer Status window remains empty even when transfers are in progress.

any help is much appreciated.

Interplay Access version 3.1 and higher show partial status for some clips.. Sample math issue?

$

I am hoping that this is the correct forum for this.  I apologize if not.

We have recently found that some clips and media either ingested with our AutoIngest product OR using the editor P2 import feature, are showing partial offline status after "refresh from media indexer" with the latest IPE.  Interplay Access versions 2.5, 2.7 and 3.0 show the same clips as online (green status).

I think that this is a sample math issue and the resulting clip, although 303 video frames long, works out to 302.9995 video frames and Access properties shows video as partial.

There is a sample P2 image here, one clip, that is 303 frames long.  Please use the legacy P2 import and check the clip into Interplay and the problem is easily seen.ftp.nltek.com/nlttemp/Avid/AccessPartialOfflineIssue/CONTENTS.zip I think the issue depends on how sample math works out.  With this clip, it is 303 video frames.  AMA/consolidate is making audio mxf that is 485284 samples in size. The metadata part of these files are 485285.   485284 samples is 302.9995 video samples.  485285 is 303.0001 video samples. I think because the media length with AMA is 1 sample shorter, the video is showing as partial (with the newer Interplay Access). With autoingest, we are creating mxf audio with 485284 samples of data AND the metadata is 485284 samples.  But the video is still partial as shown with newer Interplay Access. NOTE: the p2 audio files are 485284 samples long. (302.9995 frames).  Neither autoingest or the editor import is padding this out with one more sample to make it 303.0001 frames. SO the question is.. Is this an Interplay ACCESS Issue?  I think the AMA/P2 consolidate has an issue.  What should the correct sample count be?  Should they be padded out in the MXF essence for audio?   It seems like a rounding issue somewhere... Please let me know if there are any questions.  I want to help resolve this...  Can you advise if this is something that WE should address (padding out mxf) or is it likely an Access problem?   I do think something similar came up with this a couple of years ago... Please let me know if you have any questions..

What we really miss in Interplay and Mediacentral

$

Dear Avid,

I work as post-production engineer in broadcast, especially in reality television.

I'd like to bring to your attention what feature we are really missing in interplay production and mediacentral:

1 - Possibility to export the locators (and maybe metadata) OF MANY CLIPS AT ONCE in an excel file and print it in some human readable pieces of paper.

This is the number 1 request made by our clients, there are a lots of screenwriters that still want to work on paper, especially when working at the side of the editor. They prefer to hand-write timecodes and to don't use interplay at all if this feature is not implemented.

2 - A decent search engine in interplay window (inside media composer) and in media central.

Avid has developed media index, that seams to be so nice (just read it on paper), but it has been told me is not implemented in our Interplay Production Suite. So how do I need a so powerfull and expensive database system if I'm unable to search nothing else than a single text string? We need at least "and" "or" operators for words, phrases and keywords (see point 3).

3 - A keywords system.

This is something that's missed in Avid Media Composer and so more in media central. Loggers in reality television have many keywords to insert like the characters names, the locations, the moods, and so on... They need to write all those things in less time as possible (at clip level or at locator level) and they have to do it without grammar errors, because they need those informations to retrive back (see point 2) the material when asked by screenwriters maybe after weeks.

4 - A tool for batch renaming clips and batch metadata editing (to keep interplay database in order)

Another thing that is missed in media composer from the dinosaurs age and still be missed in Interplay.

I think that interplay has a really nice vision behind, but without theese little three/four things is not really suitable in reality television.

Obviusly we found out workarounds, expecially using automated input interface simulators (to do repetitive tasks extremely faster), but they are still not so elegant.

Hoping to see those things implemented in a new release and to be able so to have clients that are happy to rent and use the interplay production system, I'll thank you for the attention.

AMA check in - how to stop

Hi

We've just upgraded to Media Composer 8 and seem to have lost the ability to stop Interplay checking in AMA material.  This is causing issues as we have producers on Interplay Central that can now search for these clips that all appear "media offline".

Is there a way to turn this off?

Thanks

file>open>bin Why is this not recommended?

I have heard many times that we should not be using file>open>bin in an Interplay Environment.  My question is why?

I have some editors that use it, and I always freak out on them, but Im not sure why?

Thanks for the Input.

Extended Search yields no results

In Access, I log in as Administrator. I twirl down to Orphan Clips>Kept Media. I run an Extended search for "Date Deleted" "anytime" and I get "There are no results to display". But, if I go the Kept Media tab, I have the Date Deleted column showing and I see items listed there.

I discovered this because I was attempting to search for orphaned pre-computes that had been deleted more than 30 days ago and thought I should be able to search for them.

The system is Version 3.2.1.45837

Any ideas?

Avid UX Source Timecode in Sequence

$

Hi,

A client wants to transcribe their rushes via the UX. Since it appears you can't load all the clips into the source monitor I decided to create a sequence in the Avid per card. But the biggest flaw is that when viewing the sequence in the UX is that you can't set the timecode in the source monitor to source timecode. The only option is 'Master, Remain and Absolute'. This renders the sequence useless as you really need to be able to view source timecode, seems like a pretty basic feature to be missing.

If you place a timecode generator on it for 'source timecode' of course you need to render it which would take too long.

Am I missing something here? Viewing source timecode on a sequence checked into the UX...

Avid... Really?

Copying files off ISIS

Hi,

I don't know if this is by design or a bug.

I have a machine with an ISIS Client Connection Manager (v4.7.0.15070).  When I use Windows Explorer to copy a video atom file off the ISIS storage so we can analyse it, the first chunk of the files is just zeros.  In fact it is all zeros up to the first frame of video.

Is this expected behaviour?  If yes, what is the best way to copy a video file off teh ISIS witout corrupting it?

Thanks

Is it MB/s, Mb/s, Frames/s?

Vantage workflow using H264 Proxy and Hi-Res?

$

I'm at a client site where they just had Telestream Vantage installed, the idea was to have Vantage simultaneously create lo-res and hi-res Avid media from the sources.

We set up a workflow, but it's not quite working the way we expected. Instead of creating a single clip that points to both sets of media, it is creating a clip and media for the lo-res and a clip and media for the hi-res. We end up with 1 master clip pointing the low-res and then another master clip pointing to the hi-res. We can not use Dynamic Relink because Avid sees the master clips as separate entities.

Has anyone been able to set up a Vantage workflow that creates low-res and hi-res simultaneously and a single master clip that gets checked in to Interplay so that we could use Dynamic Relink.

Mac OS questions?

Hi Guys,

I've got a few Mac related questions:

If I upgrade to El Capitan 10.11.1 what version of Interplay is supported?

This customer only has 3.0.6 server version.

On another note - I've had some Java Related issues on the Mac side and installing Access:

http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/troubleshooting/java-io-EOFException

I've seen the above link - and used Pacifist succesfully on a machine running 10.9.4, and one running 10.10.5

However, the other two that are running 10.10.5 are giving me issues when trying to install access.

Has this Java issue been fixed with the latest version of Interplay? I'm wondering if the best bet for me is to get all the Macs on the same OS?

Problem is 10.10 flat is not available. Great. SO its not easy for me to go to 10.10.5 - Apple wants me to upgrade to 10.11.1

SO....

Just wondering others experience with 10.11.x and Interplay.

Would be great if I don't have Java issues as well.

Thanks
